🍼 Breast Milk Storage — Latest Guidelines 2026
For healthy, full-term infants:

❄️ Thawed & Warmed Milk
- Milk thawed in the refrigerator: use within 24 hours.
- Once thawed, do not refreeze.
- After warming or bringing to room temperature: use within 2 hours.
- Leftover milk after a feeding: use within 2 hours, then discard.
⚠️ Important Safety Points
- Do not microwave breast milk.
- Do not heat breast milk directly on the stove.
- Freshly expressed warm milk should be cooled before combining with already chilled milk.
- Store milk toward the back of the refrigerator/freezer, not in the door.
- Label expressed milk with the date and use older milk first (FIFO).

🌍 WHO 2025 Update
The WHO 2025 Pocket Book states that expressed breast milk can be stored for up to 8 hours at room temperature, 4 days in a refrigerator, and 6 months in a freezer.
